CHINA. City of Tong-chew (TONGZHOU, BEIJING). Pilgrimage to a Chinese God, 1746

'City Tong-chew 180 Miles N. West of Canton'. Artist/engraver/cartographer: J. Basire. Provenance: "A New General Collection of Voyages and Travels"; Printed for Thomas Astley, Published by His Majesty's Authority, London. Type: Antique copperplate print. The title states the Tong-chew is "180 miles N West of Canton", however according to the adjacent text (which is not included in the sale, but which at the time of writing can be viewed online), it is clear that "Tong-chew" is in close proximity to Peking, from which we infer that the city referred to is modern-day Tongzhou
