An 1872 Pattern Shako for a field grade officer of the chasseurs à cheval. Strong cardboard body covered with leather and light blue cloth, gilt hunting horn badge on the front beneath a gold twisted braid patch and atricolor cockade. Smooth gilded button. Wide gold braid around top. Blue painted ventilation grommets. Leather sweatband and pink silk lining (poor condition). Manufacturer's markings for "Rouart, 86 rue de Richelieu Paris" printed in gold. Black leather visor a brass rim and lined with thin green leather.
