New Plant at Braeside, Ont., is Working SplendidlyâStructure is of Steel, Brick and Con- crete â The Equipment is All Electrically DrivenâNew Epoch in Sawmill Construction lilllllllilllllllllllllllllllllillllll Unique in construction, daring in achievement and imposing in appearance, is the new fireproof, electrically-driven, steel and con- crete sawmill of Gillies Bros., Limited at Braeside, Ont. The struc- ture is the only one of its kind in the Dominion and marks a new era in sawmill enterprises. To carry out a project of this proportion, expenditure and design required vision, faith and courage, for the plant of Gillies Bros., Limited, is one that establishes a radical depar- ture from the usual run of activities in the lumber line. The capacity of the mill is 150,000 feet a day and the details of its erection, equip- ment and management will be edifying and interesting to all branches of the lumber industry. A representative of the "Canada Lumberman" recently had the pleasure of visiting Braeside, in Renfrew county, and was much impressed by the splendid nature of the mill building, its solidity, permanence and attractiveness. The site selected is about a mile east of the former mill of the company, which was burned on June 22nd, 1919. Ground was broken for the structure on October 15th of the same year, and work was continued that fall and throughout the greater portion of 1920. The mill was given a trial run in October,. A part of the sorting shed which is 236 feet long. just a year after construction started. Pending its erection and com- pletion, the logs of Gillies Bros, were sa'wn by the Hawkesbury Lumber Co. at Hawkesbury, so that there was practically no interruption in the
