The above contract provides in the first place for the floor ofthe Library, and the roof of the Law School below. The latter—spoken of as nethir floore, and loiigher floore—is to have six mainbeams (dormauntes), each 16 inches square. The joists (gistes)between these main beams are to be 8 inches broad, 5 inchesthick, and 8 inches apart, with their edges hollowed out intothe molding called a casement. The boards of the floor,which are to lie across the joists, are to be one inch thick, andmade to fit accurately {lynyd).
