The Chichester Ship Canal near Hunston, West Sussex.

Chichester Ship Canal was opened in 1822 to connect Chichester to the sea, a distance of 4 miles. It was a branch of a more ambitious scheme to link Portsmouth to London via canal. The canal was never really a success and the last commercial use was in 1906 when a cargo of shingle was brought into Chichester. The canal is currently owned by West Sussex County Council who in turn lease it to The Chichester Ship Canal Trust.
