Graviditas tubaria interstitialis, implantation of the ovum intothe interstitial portion of the tube, , within the uterine wall. As the fecundation of the ovum takes place in all probability in thehuman being in the ampullary portion of the tube, as has been demon-strated in many mammalia, or each pregnancy begins extrauterine(Strassman), the possibility of a tubal pregnancy is present at all times. We are well informed about the modus of the imbedding of the ovumwithin the tube by the experiments of Werth and Filth among ovum, after penetration of the epithelium, buries itself in the tubeinto the mucosa, just as it does in the uterus into the m -v V V Fig. 158.—Transverse Section Through a Pregnant Tube, tl, tubal lumen; C, coagu-lum; ch, chorionic villi; ab, area of the original insertion of the ovum. (Authorspreparation. Zeiss, Obj. A A, Oc. 2.) This process may occur either in the space between two folds, inter-columnar, or on the apex of a fold, columnar imbedding. As the ovumdoes not find in the tube a decidua as in the uterus, in which it may con-tinue to develop, it proliferates immediately into the connective tissueand musculature of the tube. The chorionic villi with the cellular columnsof Langhans at their apex grow into the mother-tissues, just as in theintrauterine pregnancy. Consequently the ovum, very soon after theimbedding, is situated externally to the lumen of the tube. The lumenis preserved in the beginning stages in the greatest portion of its cir-cumference, its mucous membrane is destroyed only laterally to theinsertion of the ovum by the growth of the s
