Female sand lizard (Lacerta agilis) excavating an egg-laying burrow in a sandy patch on a Surrey heathland site
Female sand lizards lay their eggs in late May or June in burrows that they dig in sand patches. The eggs are left buried in sand exposed to the sun which helps to keep them warm. Eggs hatch between late August and September.
