The hotel formerly occupying a commanding site beside these springs has been burned, and as yet has not been rebuilt. Another road climbs to the crest of the mountainswhere the Squirrel Inn is located. A few years ago Wood, the manager of the Arrowhead ReservoirCompany, read Frank Stocktons story, The Squirrel 25. Inn, and was so im-pressed by its novel sug-gestiveness that he deter-mined to carry out someof its ideas. The resultwas a club, with its head-quarters on the topmostridge of the San Bernar-dino Range, overlookingthe vast expanse of moun-tain and vallej below club building is a log house with a great roughstone fireplace, and, surrounding it among the pines, aresmaller log cabins, the summer homes of the members, whither they repair during the hot months to enjoy thepeace of nature and the balm of the pine woods. Every-thing about the club has been left in a state of architecture is singularly in keeping with the spot, and much taste has been shown in the designing of theartistic cottages which blend so perfectly with their sur-roundings. The Arrowhead Reservoir Company is mak-ing preparations to ac- _j ^ _^ . ^,..-cumulate and distribute Biusr-water on an immensescale throughout thisregion.
