The Cuilfail Tunnel, Lewes. East Sussex, UK. The sculpture in the foreground is 'The Spiral' by Peter Randall-Page

Cuilfail Tunnel is a 420m long single bore road tunnel taking the A26 main road (on the Eastern side of Lewes in East Sussex, UK). The tunnel was built in 1980. The sculpture in the foreground is a spiral form constructed from seven pieces of Portland Stone set on a brick plinth that forms part of the roundabout at the entrance to the tunnel. The design is suggestive of an ammonite or snail - ammonite fossils are found in the surrounding chalk cliffs. It was sculpted by Peter Randall-Page and unveiled in October 1983.
