The America’s Cup has been the oldest active trophy in international sport since 1851 and is awarded to the winner of match races between two yachts. The sterling silver trophy was made by the London company, Garrard, once the British royal crown jeweler. It is held in trust as a “challenge trophy" to promote friendly and perpetual yachting competition among nations.
