Water bubbles into the pool in the small medieval spa village of Bagna Vignoni in central Tuscany.

The small medieval village of Bagna Vignoni has waters whose healing qualities have been known since Roman times. The huge central piazza has a stone lined pool with hot sulphurous water bubbling up from volcanic rocks deep underground. According to legend a number of famous people have sought cures here, notably St Catherine of Sienna and Lorenzo the Magnificent. Unfortunately the pool is no longer open for bathing but sulphur pools do exist in one of the town's hotels for those seeking cures.
