Anapafsas, or Aghios Nikolaos ("Saint Nicholas") monastery in Meteora was founded in the 14th century. The interior of its church, was painted in the 16th century, by the famous Cretan hagiographer Theofanis (full name, Theofanis Strelitzas, nickname, "Bathas"), who set the foundations of the much celebrated Cretan school of Hagiography and iconography.
