Tollund bog. View of the bog at Tollund Mose in Jutland, Denmark. It was at this site in 1950 that the mummified body of Tollund Man was discovered. Tollund Man, a \bog body\" dated 220-40 BC, is a most well preserved body of an adult man. He was 30-40 years of age, in height, found lying with his arms bent and legs drawn up. Naked except for a leather cap and belt, he died by being hanged using a braided leather noose. Analysis of his stomach showed his last meal was a gruel of barley and local wild seeds. The low temperature and oxygen levels in the bog, and its high tannins led to his mummification."
