All developed into large or very large grafts containing skin, brain, intestine, cartilage, etc. Usually the implants were small but compact. When somewhat larger, they contained some connective tissue, blood (Fig. 1) and occasionally smooth muscle fibers. In cases when they were attached to the host, they were covered with poorly organized, vacuolated, spherical, or more or less elongated cells. These cells formed a definite layer in some cases and had the appearance of intestinal epithelium (arrow in Fig. 1).
