These Indian Railway’s AWC Class were a 5’ 6” gauge version of the standard S160. The class numbered 60 examples, all of which were built by Baldwins in 1944. The type could be found ending their days on heavy shunting duties at Niahati north of Calcutta. They replaced the standard XF heavy shunter the last example of which had just been broken up when this picture was made on 1st December 1976.
