TheEquitable building was constructed in 1870; it was Innlt with gran-ite front walls, in the prevailing French style, with ^Mansard Ulterior construction was of masonry partition walls, iron beamsand segmental brick arches. It was originally five stories T. Smith was the mason, J. G. Batterson the granite contrac-tor, and J. B. & J. M. Cornell the iron contractors.
