BUTTERPIELD Samuel, a promi-nent Elder of Herriman, Salt Lakecounty, Utah, is a son of Thomas But-terfield and Mary Jane Parker and wasborn in Herriman, Salt Lake county,. Utah, Feb. 27, 1855; was baptized whenthirteen years old by Ensign I. Stock-ing, ordained an Elder and received hisendowments in 1873, and married SarahJane Farmer Oct. 17. 1875. In June, 1879, he was ordained to the office of aSeventy by Joseph Young and startedon a mision to the Southern States. Helabored in West Virginia and Ken-tucky, together with Gordon S. Billsand Frank McDonald as baptized sixteen souls and or-ganized a branch of the Church inLawrence county, Kentucky. ElderButterfield returned to Utah Jan. 19,1881. From July, 1882, to July, 1899,he acted as first assistant superintend-ent of the Ward Sunday school, andsince the latter date he has filled theposition of superintendent.
