Bradford City Hall was built in 1873 to a competition-winning design by Lockwood and Mawson and is a Grade I Listed Building. It was extended in 1905 - 1909 to the designs of Norman Shaw. Its name was changed from Town Hall to City Hall in 1965. King George VI, father of the present British Queen, Elizabeth II, succeeded to the throne in 1936 on the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII. Edward married Wallis Simpson and the couple were subsequently titled Duke and Duchess of Windsor. This photograph was taken by a Yorkshire married couple, George and Kathleen Blenkhorn, and comes from a Blenkhorn family album.
