He served as a member of the board of relief of Stratford for several years and fortwo years occupied the position of tax collector. He was popular witli all classes and hetook a deep interest in liis town and its institutions, doing everything in his power topromote their upbuilding and progress. He possessd a very genial manner, was kind andgenerous to a fault and was greatly devoted to his home and family. It was on October 26, 1882, that he wedded Miss Emma E. Moore, a lady of refinement. He also erected a tine residenceon East Broadway in Stratford, where his widow still resides. Mr. Stagg passed away inStratford, Jlanh Hi, and was laid to rest in Inion cemetery. On the day of thefuneral all business was suspended in Stratford as a nuirk of respect.
