The Continental Bridge( since renamed Ron Kirk Bridge) was for 80 years one of several that carried traffic over the Trinity River. The two new Santiago Calatrava designed bridgeis will now carry the bulk of the traffic. The Continental was later renamed for former Mayor Ron Kirk and US Ambassador of T rade for the Obama Administration. The bridge now is a very successful park, hosting many events, parades and 5 K runs,bike races and musical events. A member of the Italian Parliment has walked down the bridge in a Labor Day parade in Dallas with the Italian community organizations.
