The addition of the extensions shows the number of metrical lin. The Canadian Intelligence Service and Its Chief One of the most valuable aids in connection with the develop- ment of Canadian export trade is the work carried on by the Cana- dian Commerce Intelligence Ser- vice. A review of the work of the Service was recently published by Mr. R. Grigg, Commissioner of Commerce, which gives an excel- lent idea of its importance. In his introduction to the review Mr. Grigg outlines the extent of the service at present in existence, which includes 24 officers, serving abroad, of whom 18 are trade com- missioners, stationed in the Ar- gentine Republic, Australia, Brit- ish West Indies, China, Cuba, France, Germany, Japan, Holland, Newfoundland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, and six are commercial agents stationed in the British West Indies, Colombia, Norway and South Africa. In accordance with an arrangement made by the Minister of Trade and Commerce with Sir Edward Grey in July, 1912, a large number of British Consols were also placed at the disposal of Canadians, who may wish to consult them in reference to trade mat- ters. Valuable reports are continually received from these officers describing in detail the opportunities for increasing Canada's export trade in various lines. These reports are of an eminently practical nature, giving, in the great majority of cases, actual facts and figures in connection with the subject under discussion. It is impossible to deal adequately with the value of this service in a brief reference. It would be advisable for Canadian lumbermen who are studying the export trade to get in touch with Mr. Grigg and request him to place their names upon the mailing list for the Weekly Trade & Commerce Reports.
