Pedro II of Aragon arriving for a proposed duel with Charles of Anjou in 1283 to bring to a rapid end The War of the Sicilian Vespers or War of the Vespers. The duel never actually took place as Pedro arrived early and finding nobody there forced a notary to record the absence, and therefore defeat, of the enemy, likewise Charles arriving later also found nobody there and declared his victory.
