#74 Walter Findlay exiting the pit lane at Hampton Downs, in his Formula Junior Elva-DKW two stroke, 20th Jan 2017 at the Ken Smith Festival
The Hampton Downs race complex was the brainchild of Chris Watson, Tony Roberts and the late Geoff Manning. The circuit was initially supposed to be financed from the profits from the sale of 80, 2 bedroom trackside apartments, on what was Waikato farmland, but a combination of factors caused a costly delay. The first race meetings were run late 2009 and the official opening was January 2010, with much of the organising of entrants by festival chairman, Jim Barclay.
