Ectopic pregnancy. Endoscope (laparascope) view of an ectopic pregnancy in a patient's fallopian tube. An ectopic pregnancy (eccysis) is a complication of pregnancy in which the embryo implants outside the uterine cavity (uterus). Here the embryo has implanted in one of the patient's fallopian tubes, known as a tubal pregnancy. Most ectopic pregnancies occur in the fallopian tube, but implantation can also occur in the cervix, ovaries, and abdomen. An ectopic pregnancy is a potential medical emergency, and, if not treated properly, can lead to death.
