Emperor Augustus from 27 - 14 BC Roman Rome Italy Italian. ( This is a plaster copy of a statue found in the Villa of Augustus’ wife Livia, just outside Rome. He is shown addressing his troops. Eros rides on a dolphin next to his left leg, and symbolic images are shown on his cuirass. He wears a cuirass and the purple cloak of an Emperor. Marble statues were colourfully painted. These colours have been restored here, based on traces of the paints found on the original. No traces were found on the skin an cuirass. Plaster copy after original in the Vatican Museums )
