For the next tenyears he worked hard at poetry and painting, andin 1861 published his first volume of translations,The Early Italian Poets. The publication of hisoriginal poems was delayed by the death of hiswife, Elizabeth Eleanor Siddal, who died in 1862,less than two years after their marriage.
