As the impurities are over and around the draw-offhead in front of the water and steam, the pressure inthe boiler pushes them out through the suckers intothe blow-off pipe before any water or steam can passthrough. There is no waste of water, as the blowing offis stopped as soon as the water shows clear. This iswhat reduces the waste of water to a minimum. Thedraw-off head here shown is a great improvement overthe old head formerly used; even if they should stopup from neglect, they can be cleaned from the outside. Fig. 2. Each part of the cleaner is a companion to theother, and what one leaves undone the other two must be used together to obtain perfectresults. When the water is boiling the impurities come to thesurface in a boiler the same as in an open vessel. It is here at the front end of the boiler and atthe surface that the skimmer intercepts the impurities, settling and removing them before they have time totouch the hot flues
