WALES, UNITED KINGDOM. APRIL 2021. Image of the Sirhowy Valleys woodlands Volunteers. Started in 2015, the Sirhowy Valley Woodlands in Blaenau Gwent are looked after by a small group of volunteers, dog walkers and local residents who are passionate about improving the appearance and usage of Sirhowy Woodlands. Unfortunately the area is often victim to litter, vanadlism and damage to foodpaths due to quad bikers. The group now meets regularly on the first sunday of every month during 10am -12 midday to litter pick. They encourage anyone who's interested to get involved and provide bag and litter pickers to those volunterring. The volunteers say, 'Rome wasn’t built in a day and the woodlands are in much need of plenty of tender loving care!'. They hope to quietly move forward with protecting and nourishing the wildlife and flora and fauna already in the woodlands. Making up for the neglect of the past few years, they want to get the woodlands into a better shape for the benefit of visitors and the local community. As well as litter picking the group holds sessions for everyone to get involved with including apple pressing, tree planting and wood carving.
