European Spider crab, Maja squinado, in the HMS Maori wreck in the Mediterranean Sea, Valletta, Malta.

The European Spider crab, Maja squinado, is a migratory species that can be found in parts of the Atlantic and throughout the Mediterranean Sea. They usually migrate during the autumn months, wherein they travel up to 160 km. During moulting time they aggregate in smaller groups, probably a defense strategy against predators. Spider feed on different organisms including sea weeds, smaller mollusks and sea urchins and picture was taken at the HMS Maori in Valletta, Malta.
