Tamsulosin prostate drug pills in a blister pack. This drug is used to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), an enlarged prostate in middle-aged and elderly men. The prostate is a small gland found in men just below the bladder, surrounding the urethra, the tube urine passes through. A common symptom of BPH is difficulty passing urine. Tamsulosin belongs to a class of drugs known as alpha-blockers. It works by binding to alpha receptors in the muscle of the prostate gland, which causes them to relax. This allows urine to flow freely out of the body.
