The width atthe sills is 6 ft. 10 ins., and at the posts a fraction over 7 ft. 4 leading to the upper deck are of the Brill pattern, whichin connection with the hood protect the motorman, while theydischarge the passengers on the lower deck directly at the en-trance. There are twelve reversible back seats on the upper deckand the same number of spring cane seats and backs in the lower seats are reversible excepting those in the corners,which have stationary ioo8 STREET RAILWAY JOURNAL. One valuable feature in construction of the canopy is foundin the fact that it is braced in all directions, thus giving a muchgreater stiffness and durability to this part of car which is alwayssubjected to severe strains. The truck is the Brill No. 21-E, withthe usual double journal springs and half elliptic on the extremeends. The trim inside is of white ash with three-ply veneer headlinings. The Brill practice of using a very high railing aroundthe upper deck is followed in this case, thus insuring the safetyof the passenger when alighting even though the car be in motion.
