Aircrete building block, with an inset close-up (lower left) of its honeycombed structure. Aircrete is a UK brand name for autoclaved aerated concrete. This is a form of concrete that is produced using aluminium powder that reacts with calcium hydroxide to form hydrogen. This produces a foamy concrete with gas bubbles that make it a lightweight building material used for insulation. The honeycombed structure provides strength, but the loads it can carry are less than standard concrete.
