Water Tube Boiler, John Thompson (Wolverhampton) Ltd. Wolverhampton, Mid 20th cent. A water tube boiler with a superheater. It had a heating surface of 4,800 square feet, and a working pressure of 1851 pounds per square inch. It was installed at the works of The Gramophone Company Ltd in Hayes, Middlesex, and was John Thompson's third repeat order from this company. The presence of the gentlemen standing next to it suggests its huge size. The stamping of the words ''war materials'' (next to the gentleman on the left) also suggests that this was produced around the time of the Second World War (1939-1945).
