Sydney harbour. View across Sydney harbour, Australia. The white building is the famous Sydney Opera House, designed by the Danish architect Joern Utzon. The opera house was completed in 1973 at a cost of A$100 million. Behind this is the equally famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is the widest arch bridge in the world, with a main arch span of 503 metres. It was built in 1923-32, and carries both road and rail traffic. It was finally paid for by tolls in 1985.
