Alpine symbol on a winter tyre. The three-pointed mountain pictogram with the snowflake in the middle is mandatory for all winter tyres manufactured from 1 January 2018. The previous M+S symbol will then no longer be sufficient for newly produced winter tyres. However, for a transitional period (until ), tyres already manufactured with the M+S marking will still meet the winter tyre requirement, after which consumers will have to replace their winter tyres
