From Warren, the railroad crosses the height of land to theConnecticut River, which is reached in the town of elevation of the railroad at Warren Summit, is 1,063 ^eet*The elevated line of the road through Haverhill gives a suc-cession of beautiful views up and down the Connecticut, andacross the river in Vermont. The passenger overlooks the. MOUNT WASHINGTON RAILWAY. broad valley, and at one point the great bend or Ox the charming villages seen on the Vermont side areBradford and Newbury. At Woodsville, the traveller can diverge from the line andproceed by railway up the valley of the Ammonoosuc River inthe direction of the celebrated White Mountain Notch andMount Washington. By this route there is unbroken railcommunication with Littleton, Bethlehem, the Profile House Montreal 6° Boston Ah Line. and Franconia Notch, Twin Mountain House, Fabyan House,Mount Pleasant House, Crawford House and White MountainNotch, Mount Washington Summit House (situated at the verysummit of Mount Washington, 6,293 feet above the sea level),Whiteficld, Jefferson, Lancaster, Groveton Junction, etc. Itis the route also to Brunswick Springs, Colebrook, DixvilleNotch, Lake Umbagog, the Richardson or Rangely Lakes ofMaine, the Magalloway River, Parmachenee Lake, the Con-necticut Lakes, etc. The ascent
