SpaceX CRS-2 launch. Space Exploration Technologies (SpaceX) Falcon 9 rocket lifting off from Space Launch Complex 40, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, USA, at 10:10am local time (EST) on 1 March 2013. The rocket is carrying a Dragon capsule filled with cargo. This is the third trip by the SpaceX Dragon capsule to the International Space Station (ISS). This mission is the second of 12 SpaceX flights contracted by NASA to resupply the ISS. It originated from NASA's COTS (Commercial Orbital Transportation Services) initiative, set up to encourage private companies to ship cargo to the ISS after the retirement of the shuttle program in 2011.
