The common Eider [Somateria mollissima] is a large sea-duck that is distributed over the northern coasts of Europe, A male is seen here fanning its wings extended upwards, raising itself momentarily in the cold waters of the Kolgrafafjorour, near the small fishing village of Grundarfjordur, Iceland. A graduated polarising filter has been used to emphasis and isolate the subject.
