Pkt., 5 cts.; oz., 25 Dreer's Giant Fringed Endive. ENDIVE. Endivieu, Ger. Chicoree, Fr. Eiidivia 6 Escarola, Sp. One ounce of seed to 150 feet of row. Endive is one of the best and most wholesome salads for fall and winter use. Sow in shallow drills in April for early use, or for late use in June or July. When 2 or 3 inches high, trans- plant into good ground or thin out to 1 foot apart. When nearly full grown, and before they are fit for the table, they must be blanched. This is done by gathering the leaves to- gether and tying with yarn or bass, to exclude the light and air from the inner leaves, which must be done when quite dry, or they will rot. Another method is to cover the jilanis with boards or slats. In three or four weeks they will be blanched. Green Curled Winter. Standard sort for fall and winter crop.
