For example: It is found necessary to add 200feet to a length of 400 feet of ^ in. diameter rope to get a totallength of 600 feet. The length of splice for ^ in. rope is 25 feetand the total length of rope to be ordered should therefore be 225feet. The tools required for making a splice are as follows: One pair of wire cutters for cutting the strands; one pair of[)liers for pulling them and straightening the ends of strands; twomarline spikes, one round and one oval; a knife to cut
