Preliminary tests August 12, 1911.] ELECTRIC RAILWAY JOURNAL. 269 which have been made up to date would indicate that thereis approximately an 18 per cent saving in the operation ofthe low-pressure turbine in connection with reciprocating-engines over the same amount of output by the reciprocatingengines alone. The companys engineers contemplate mak-ing exhaustive tests of this power installation in the nearfuture and these will be made the subject of a separatearticle. The new low-pressure turbo-generator was purchased asa 2500-kw machine on tW old railway rating of a rise for continuous operation. This corresponds to ap-proximately 3700-kw rating on the basis of the so-calledmaximum continuous l6ad.
