Mambrino Chief was mated with Woodbine, daughter of thorough-bred Woodford, and the produce was» Woodford Mambrino, a horse,taking into consideration his limited opportunities in the stud, thatoutranks, by what he has accomplished, all other stallions. Of theeighty-nine colts and fillies sired by him at Woodburn, not more thanseventy-five reached maturity, and many of these were not handledfor speed. When wasted by disease, Woodford Mambrino made awonderful campaign on the turf, and he gained on a slow track, atMinneapolis, a record of 2:21*. He has thirteen sons and daughtersthat have trotted in 2:30 or better
