The Gate of Virtue, Gonville and Caius College Cambridge This picture represents the Court built by Caius, who refounded the College. The Gate of Humility faces the spectator. This is the west side, and over the gate are the words Io CAIVS POSVIT SAPIENTIAE 1567. These words are taken from the inscription on the foundation stone Painted by William Matthison, 1853-1926 in 1907
