The object is to combine the desirablefeatures of the plug valve with facilities for automatic adjust-ment to the bore of the valve chamber, to obtain ample bear-ing surface of the packing rings by use of wide rings withabsolute protection against excessive friction caused by steampressure against the inside of the rings, and to do this withsimple and durable devices.
