Marines from the 3rd and 2nd Battalions were transported by UH-34 helicopters to an island off Chu Lai on May 30, 1965. The purpose was to conduct a clearing operation. In this photograph, a heli-team prepares to board the incoming helicopters. The image was taken by Sgt L. D. Choate and is part of the Defense Department's collection of photographs from the Vietnam War.
