Birch This genus embraces a very popular and highly ornamental class of trees. Their elegant, graceful port, silvery bark, slender branches, and light and airy foliage, render them general favorites. As single specimens on the lawn, or em- ployed as avenue trees, the upright varieties are very imposing and handsome. They thrive even in the poorest soils and in the most exposed situations. B. alba. European White Weeping Birch. A. A graceful tree, with silvery bark and slender branches. Quite erect when young, but after four or five years growth assumes an elegant drooping habit, rendering the tree very effective in landscapes. 5 to 6 ft., 50c each; 10 for $ var. fastigiata.
