Its consumption is extending inthis region by its use in the blast furnacesin the place of charcoal, for smelting ironores, and the receipts of this fuel in the cityof Baltimore are about of those ofthe semi-bituminous coals of the Cumber-land region, which are brought to the cityby the Baltimore and Ohio railroad and thecanal.
