It is one of three weather squadrons originally formed in WWII. This is the first time that the 3rd will serve in a combat arena. Air Force weather squadrons provide weather support to all Army operations. Battlefield weathermen provide critical, on-the-spot, information to ground commanders during all manner of operations and are considered a critical asset for situational awareness during battlefield planning and execution.
