Secondary bone cancer treatment. Coloured computed tomography (CT) scan of the sacrum (sitting bone, blue at centre) and pelvis of a 58 year old woman with secondary bone cancer. The patient is undergoing radiofrequency ablation surgery to have a cancerous bone tumour removed. A needle-like probe (trocar, top right) is being inserted into the tumour. It will emit radio waves to heat the tumour and destroy it, with minimal damage to the healthy tissues surrounding it. This tumour has metastasised (spread) from a primary breast cancer.
