Hemispherium. Corridor in Guisborough Priory, North Yorkshire, England, as it would have looked in the 12th-14th centuries, seen in the virtual reality Hemispherium. This is the finest immersive virtual reality facility in the world. The screen is a six metre wide dome, mounted vertically, giving an authentic 180 degree field of view in both horizontal and vertical planes. Seven projec- tors provide real-time computer graphics. The pilot (lower left) controls the view by using a joystick. As well as virtual tourism such as this, the facility can also be used for building design and pilot training. The Hemispherium was opened in December 1998 at Teesside University, England.
